Mark A. Hewett, 58, is the president and CEO of the BHE Pipeline Group, which consists of Northern Natural Gas Company, Kern River Gas Transmission, BHE GT&S, and Alaska Gas Transmission Company, LLC. Under Hewett’s leadership, Kern River and Northern Natural Gas have provided industry leading customer service and since 2010, have held the top two spots in the Mastio & Co. customer satisfaction survey.

Kern River owns and operates 1,700 miles of pipeline in Wyoming, Utah, Nevada and California. The company is a direct link between the abundant Rocky Mountain natural-gas producing basins and western markets, including Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, and southern California. Kern River’s pipeline system has a design capacity of 2.2 billion cubic feet per day.

Northern Natural Gas owns and operates 14,600 miles of transmission pipeline with facilities in 11 states and access to the major North American supply basins. Northern Natural Gas also owns and operates three underground natural gas storage fields and two liquefied natural gas storage facilities. Northern Natural Gas’ pipeline system has a design capacity of 6.3 billion cubic feet per day.

BHE GT&S is an interstate natural gas transmission and storage company headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, that became a standalone subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Energy in November 2020. BHE GT&S operates more than 5,500 miles of gas transmission line and 760 billion cubic feet per day of underground storage in the eastern U.S., along with gathering, processing and field services businesses.

Alaska Gas Transmission Company, LLC owns an indirect 26.5% interest in Cook Inlet Natural Gas Storage Alaska, LLC, an 11.0 Bcf working storage facility in Alaska developed in 2012, serving four utility customers in and around the Cook Inlet region in southcentral Alaska.

In 1987, Hewett joined MidAmerican Energy Company and served in a number of management positions, most recently as vice president of energy trading. In 2002, Hewett was selected as president of Northern Natural Gas upon MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company’s purchase of the company. In 2007, he also assumed executive responsibility for Kern River.

Hewett earned a bachelor’s degree in management science from Buena Vista College.
