Northern Powergrid Team Supports Nepalese Employees With Fundraising Effort for Earthquake Appeal

Employees from across Northern Powergrid, the company which runs the region’s power network, have supported their Nepalese colleagues by raising more than £9,200* for the Nepal earthquake appeal.

The fundraising effort started after four Nepalese Northern Powergrid employees appealed to fellow colleagues for donations after news of the devastating earthquake on 25 April, 2015.

The team at Northern Powergrid were so touched by their request and tragedy of the earthquake, which claimed the lives of more than 8,600 people and injured 16,800 people, that they set about raising funds.

Colleagues from across the distribution company, which manages the network which delivers electricity to the doors of 3.9 million homes and businesses across the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, raised more than £8,000* through individual donations and organizing cake sales, raffles and a dress down day. Northern Powergrid added to its employees’ fundraising efforts with a £1,200 donation from the company.

Anuj Chhettri, a Northern Powergrid design engineer, said: “We were overwhelmed by the fantastic support from colleagues across the business. I always knew there was a great team spirit amongst my colleagues but their dedication and generosity has exceeded everything I could have imagined when we first set up the fundraising page. I’m incredibly grateful for their and Northern Powergrid’s support and for showing how much they care.”

The Nepal earthquake measured 7.8 on the Richter scale and severely shook the lives of at least 8 million people. Thousands of people are still missing, dispersed and without food, water, shelter and health care.
