Renewable Energy

BHE Renewables has two solar projects with battery energy storage under construction: a 106-megawatt solar microgrid with 20-megawatt battery energy storage in Ravenswood, West Virginia, and Solar Star 3 and 4 projects in Kern County, California, each providing 24 megawatts of solar generation and 23 megawatts of four-hour battery energy storage.

Environmental Respect

By being good stewards of the environment, BHE Renewables also is able to create local jobs and spur the capital investment that sustains communities.

A Vision for the Future

BHE Renewables is committed to developing solar, wind, geothermal and hydro projects that deliver safe, reliable and cost-effective energy.

Solar Energy

Solar

1,690-megawatt capacity*

BHE Renewables is an industry leader in solar energy generation and continues to develop its portfolio with noncarbon resources.

Wind Energy

Wind

2,545-megawatt capacity

BHE Renewables operates several unregulated wind-powered generation projects.

Geothermal Energy

Geothermal

345-megawatt capacity

BHE Renewables owns 10 geothermal facilities in California’s Imperial Valley.

Hydro Energy

Hydro

10-megawatt capacity

BHE Renewables has the capacity to produce 10 megawatts of electricity through the Wailuku hydroelectric facility in Hawaii.

Advancements in Mineral Development

BHE Renewables is advancing lithium production research in California’s Imperial Valley, where brine containing recoverable lithium is processed at the company’s geothermal facilities. Lithium is a critical mineral used in batteries that power cell phones, laptop computers and electric vehicles. Through a joint venture announced in 2024 with Occidental, the company is using TerraLithium technology to refine the direct lithium extraction process. The project is currently in the demonstration phase and working toward a potential decision on commercialization in 2026.

Ravenswood Microgrid

A renewable energy microgrid is an innovative and increasingly popular energy technology that’s giving businesses and communities access to more sustainable and reliable power. A solar microgrid can be used to power one or multiple facilities by generating electricity using solar power.

BHE Renewables and Precision Castparts Corp. (PCC), broke ground on one of the world's largest solar and battery storage microgrids in 2023. A 2,000-acre site in Millwood, West Virginia, is where BHE Renewables will power PCC’s state-of-the-art TIMET titanium facility. TIMET will use the solar energy to produce titanium products for the aerospace industry. The microgrid will deliver 70% of TIMET’s electricity demand on an annual basis.
