The NV Energy Foundation NV Energy and Employees Support Non-Profits Statewide in 2019

March 5, 2020 – The NV Energy Foundation, NV Energy and its employees gave $6.9 million statewide in 2019. The total is made up of both financial and in-kind donations, including nearly 38,000 volunteer hours, to support Nevada nonprofit organizations in the last year.

NV Energy Foundation giving impacted 153 nonprofit organizations statewide through donations of nearly $3.5 million in 2019. The NV Energy Foundation addresses key community needs in the areas of safety and wellness, environmental and community enhancement, education (STEM) and arts and culture. The NV Energy Foundation is funded by NV Energy, not its customers.
In northern Nevada, Foundation grants were provided to 81 nonprofit organizations including: DRI for their Science Alive Program; Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful for their Christmas Tree Recycling Program; the Eddy House for support of their new facility for homeless youth; and the Brewery Arts Center for their arts scholarship program for disadvantaged youth. In addition, $300,000 was provided through the Special Assistance Fund for Energy (SAFE) - a program designed to assist people who, through income limitations or other unusual circumstances, find themselves in a situation where they are having difficulty paying their utility bills.
In southern Nevada, Foundation grants were provided to 72 nonprofit organizations including: Catholic Charities for their Meals on Wheels program; Jobs for Nevada’s Graduates for their STEM Career Day, US Vets for housing, mental health care, workforce development services for homeless and vulnerable veterans; and Friends of Nevada Wilderness for a collaboration with Bureau of Land Management, US Forest Service and US Fish and Wildlife Service to execute 40 stewardship projects with 400 volunteers. An additional $500,000 was provided through the Relief through Energy Assistance to Prevent Customer Hardships program (Project Reach) for vulnerable adults 62 years and older, medically fragile or Reserve and National Guard members who meet certain income guidelines.
Employees donated $610,000 through NV Energy’s annual United Way employee giving campaign making NV Energy Nevada’s largest donor to United Way in both the north and the south. In addition, $1.8 million supported various non-profits and their events through company sponsorships and other donations.
